My current payroll software (HMRC PAYE Basic Tools) calculates the amount of SSP recoverable from HMRC - will 12Pay do the same?  Also, with SMP, again it calculates and prints a schedule of the weekly amounts payable, and the totals recoverable, together with compensation.  Will I be able to find the same with 12Pay please?

Yes, 12Pay calculates SSP recovery and SMP compensation on the P32 that you get each month. You need to tick whether or not your company is "small" on the employer form.

You can print an SMP forward schedule from the SMP absence form, when you've entered the absence. From memory it just shows the amounts payable, but the compensation is a trivial calculation of 103% or 92% according to company size (and not usually needed ahead of time in any case)
