Can anybody tell me whether employer contributions to a non-contributory pension scheme should be shown on the payslip and/or tax returns?

As far as we're aware there is no particular requirement to show employers pension contribution on payslips or to report it in returns to HMRC. 12pay does have an option to show these on payslips (on the payroll reporting tab) if you want to. It shows this period's contribution, but not the cumulative contribution for the year.
