Good afternoon,

I have a new employee who should have been paid for the previous 4 weeks. He earns 16 hours at £5.80 per hour, therefore doesn't pay tax or NI. I ha set up a new code called BACKPAY with the Before NI box not ticked, although it seems to make no difference whether its ticked or not..

When I calculate his pay for this week it generates NI . My understanding is obviously wrong somewhere along the line, can you help please?

Pete, Make sure that the "Before NI" box is not ticked when you add the payment, changing the tick when the payment is already on the employee doesn't work. So if the payment is already on the employee (a) remove it (b) check the tick isn't ticked, (c) put the payment back on the employee.
