I just recieved the 12pay email and updated to version 1.4.8.

Now everytime i try to start the program i get 'cannot open database. it may not be a database that your application recognises or the file may be corrupt'

I've tried system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling and still get the same

HELP

Fixed it, but only because i had saved the installer file for version 1.4.7

I'm glad that you've found at least a solution for now before we've got back to you...

It sounds like the kind of effect that you might get if you had a .PAY file in your My Documents/12Pay folder that *isn't* a 12Pay data file, and after the upgrade the system is trying to open that one rather than your live 12Pay employer file. In fact I'm struggling to imagine any other possible explanation for this problem.

Hi Thanks for the reply.

Not sure what happened, but before finding the older 1.4.7 file and reinstalling i tried a number of methods including setting up a new company with 1.4.8 and then restoring a backup file with the payroll data on. this didnt work. Though it did when i used version 1.4.7

Not to worry got my data back and stopped panicing now, so all's good :)

OK, Thanks for letting us know.

Your solution is fine for the moment, but we have to assume that the problem will recur for you at year end, or the next time a software upgrade is compulsory rather than optional, so better to find out what is wrong sooner rather than later. At the moment we have no potential solution for you and no-one else has reported anything remotely similar.

Do you have access to another PC? It would be interesting if you could install 1.4.8 on that and try restoring one of your backups onto it. Also it would be interesting if you sent us one of your backups as an email attachment to support@12pay.co.uk

EDIT: Just thought of another (perhaps more likely) explanation, which is that your download of 1.4.8  is slightly corrupt and the template file master123pay.pay in programfiles/12Pay payroll was corrupt and couldn't be opened.

OK, After all this time we've now found out what the problem is. The user needed to upgrade to 1.5.7 and reverting when they couldn't use the system after the upgrade was no longer an option, because they need 1.5.7 for the new year. They sent us their data, and it was corrupt so we repaired it with a Microsoft tool for repairing corrupt databases. That seems to have resolved the problem.
