Hi

I am using the software to run our nanny's payroll.  I find it straightforward to use (so far as tax and NI ever is) and would recommend it to anyone over using a nanny pay bureau.

Now the question: I would like to transfer the software and payroll records to a new computer.  We have a premium licence.  What do I need to do?

Many thanks,

Peter.

EDIT:

We now have a page on the website specifically to cover this very common question.
  1. Download the software from our website onto the new PC.
  2. Transfer the company.Pay file from the old PC to the new PC. You picked the company name when you created the payroll. This file is in My Documents/12Pay and you should put it in the same folder on the new PC. If you haven't already run our software on the new PC you'll have to create a 12Pay folder in My Documents.
  3. Run the payroll software on the new PC. Do not create a new company. Select the company transferred from the old PC. You may have to find it first using the "Find" option on the company selection form.
  4. Enter licence details on the new PC exactly as you did on the original PC. At this point you have the same licence on both PCs, so you should stop using the software on the old PC unless you want to buy another licence.

Let us know if these instructions fall short, or send us your phone number (edit: privately!) if you've tried this and you are still struggling.

Almost perfect.  All worked well.  However, I found when I did it your way that the company had been reset to 'Unregistered Company' when I selected the company.  I suspect this was because no licence was installed the first time I launched the software and selected the company.

I suspect reversing 3 and 4 would overcome this problem.  I.e. install the licence file from the 'select company' dialog before selecting the company the first time (although I haven't tested this).

Many thanks,
Peter.

Indeed, doing 4 before 3 would stop the company from changing to "unregistered", but process 4 puts the company name back automatically anyway and reloads the key.

Hi,

I have a similar request, but I may have created a problem by trying to copy my data before using the back/restore method.

Initially, I simply copied my company .pay file to the other computer and then pointed 12Pay at it.  This appeared to work until I tried to run a payslip report and then I got a load of access errors which mentioned a fle path on the old computer (so no surprises it didn't work!).

I then deleted the copied .pay file, created a new company and tried the backup/restore process but I *still* get the file access problem!  Is there any way to reverese whatever I've done and get things back to normal?

Thanks,

Oliver

Oliver, Actually the way you did this was fine and should have worked.

Did you install the current release on the new PC? If so could you try requesting payslips again, but this time just "jog" the payroll a little by altering its text description slightly at the top of the form, then altering it back, then press the "Save" button.
