Hi Guys,

I'm not using the program fully until the next tax year (2008 - 2009) but one helpful enhancement springs to mind:

As far as I know, the only way you know if you have the latest version downloaded is to manually check the version number.

Would it be possible to program in an automatic version check every time you start the software? The program could then tell you if you need to download the new version.

Regards

Bill

Bill, We've wondered about this one before. The difficulty is that our software would have to query the internet about version numbers. Some of our users aren't attached to the internet all the time and they'd get a strange error message, and others (increasingly) are using Vista, and will be puzzled when a security popup advises them that 12Pay is trying to access the internet whenever they start it up.

For the moment we email the entire registered base whenever we issue a new version. (except for micro-versions that just contain a couple of unimportant fixes). That just leaves the people who haven't even registered.  But as ever we listen to our users. If enough people tell us this is a good idea then it may carry more weight next time we're thinking about enhancements.

Since downloading version 1.5.1 in January (brand new user) and subsequently purchasing Premium licence, there have been 2 new releases which we were not aware of. It was only on the off chance we logged in today and found this out. We can also see that another release is due soon. You have suggested previously that you email your entire registered base except for micro-versions, however we believe that every release should be advised, as even a small change can make all the difference to some customers.

We are subscribed to KashFlow and look forward to receiving their emails with improvements/changes, which are done automatically. It would be great to hear from you each time as well.

It is a difficult one. We get a very tiny number of comments saying that we don't send out enough "there has been an update" emails. And when we do send out newsletters we get a few, "why are you telling me this?" comments. The changes from 1.5.1 to 1.5.3 were irrelevant to more than 99% of users and unimportant to most of the remainder. We're about to send out a year-end message about 1.5.4 which is also irrelevant to more than 99% of users but may be very important to the small fraction with employees earning above £150k.

A minor factual correction. The features advertised in 1.5.5 aren't coming out soon though you weren't to know that. V1.5.5 (probably it'll be renumbered before it is released) is a very major release loaded with new features for a new "Enterprise" level licence which won't be out until the summer.
